I've got diagnosed of gestational diabetes...yeah...really?! How did this even happen? I've been eating healthier than before I was pregnant.
I eat at work cafeteria for lunch most of the time:
- Before being pregnant: Fries...no matter what food I ate, I add some fries...I love fries!
- After being pregnant: Choose a meat with two side of vegetables (occasionally, I choose a meat, a side of vegetables, and a small scoop of rice).
I drink mostly water and black coffee, I do not eat candy often...seriously, tons of people around me eat tons of carb and sugar and they've never got diagnosed of GD. I also consider myself much more active than many people around me.
- Women 25+ years old
- Previous history of diabetes
- Overweight (BMI > 30)
- History of a baby > 9 lbs at birth
- Family history of diabetes
- Ethnicity: African American, Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American
I have 2 out of these 6: number 1 and 6.
Now I've been placed on monitoring blood glucose at home that I have to
- Test fasting (morning) blood sugar = 65-95 mg/dL
- Test 2 hour post meal blood sugar (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) < 120 mg/dL
Today is my Day 2 of doing this, and so far it looks alright.
Such a pain in the a$$..........it's just not really fun to convince myself to poke my finger(s) multiple times a day. Oh well, I just hope Baby I is doing well. Less than 80 days to the due date and less than 60 days to full-term...counting down the time :)
